French Embassy expert, Alexandre Carrat, has been deployed to Australia to work on a two-year mission with AFAC.
We are pleased to warmly welcome Alexandre who is a Regional Civil Protection Advisor in France for Australian Indo-Pacific region.
AFAC was approached by the French embassy to collaborate on the technical nature of the work we do in the emergency management space.
Due to the increase in wildfires and extreme heat across regions in the south and west of France, the French Government considered better ways to engage with Australia and the Pacific Region.
In July of this year, France deployed hundreds of firefighters to the affected areas to battle and control the blazes.
The collaborative effort is due to an agreement between AFAC, the French Embassy, the National Emergency Management Agency and the French Government. AFAC’s collaboration with the French Embassy aims to further solutions in these areas:
- landscape fire management
- international resource sharing
- connecting our existing programs of work.
Alexandre will report to Grégory Cornillon, Divisional Commissioner – Security Officer from the Embassy of France to Australia, Australian Capital Territory. He arrived with Paule Ignation, Consul General of France in Melbourne, Gregory Conillion, Police attaché from the French Embassy and Ambre Trollier, Consul General Trainee.
We look forward to working with Alexandre over the next two years, beginning with his attendance at the AFAC25 Conference.
