About AFAC

AFAC is Australia and New Zealand’s National Council for fire and emergency Services and represents 36-member organisations who are totalling over 288,000 firefighters and emergency services workers.

AFAC seeks to amplify the collective capability and capacity of emergency management organisations, support them to work together to achieve better outcomes for the sector, and the communities they serve.

AFAC does this through an extensive and mature collaboration network, developing national doctrine or ways of working, and delivering project or grant-based work including professional services, software applications, aircraft contract management, cross border deployment of emergency services personnel and other nationally significant activities such as the delivery the national conference and National Emergency Services Memorial ceremony.

AFAC is also the managing partner of the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience (AIDR). AIDR is the National Institute for disaster risk reduction and resilience and collaborates across sectors to strengthen the resilience of Australian communities to disasters.

About the Position

The IT Project Officer will provide product support, finance management, administrative tasks, and industry engagement as part of AFAC’s IT team.

This role is central in understanding and defining business and member needs to ensure AFAC products are delivered and supported effectively across the sector.

Key responsibilities

Product Support

  • Develop a strong understanding of AFAC products such as ARENA and ARENA HP.
  • Provide user support, troubleshooting, and product guidance.
  • Maintain product documentation, user guides and FAQs.
  • Coordinate product communications and assist with performance reporting.
  • Support NAFC contracts and eFOR support queries.

Secretariat duties

  • Schedule meetings, prepare agendas, papers, and meeting packs.
  • Draft and distribute minutes and manage participation lists.
  • Provide timely responses to collaboration group enquiries.

Finance, administration and engagement

  • Support with quotes, invoices, and maintaining financial records.
  • Manage stakeholder records in the CRM.
  • Engage and collaborate with agencies across AFAC membership.
  • Represent AFAC at relevant industry events.

The ideal candidate will be proactive, organised, and passionate about technology, with the confidence to manage multiple responsibilities in a busy environment. If you are looking for a part time role, 4 days a week and fit the below:

Essential skills and experience include:

  • Excellent communication skills with a customer-service focus.
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
  • Knowledge of, or experience with, product management and Agile practices/tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Miro).
  • Data management and systems experience.
  • Financial and invoice processing skills (desirable).
