About AFAC
AFAC is Australia and New Zealand’s National Council for fire and emergency services and represents 36-member organisations who are totalling over 288,000 firefighters and emergency services workers.
AFAC seeks to amplify the collective capability and capacity of emergency management organisations, support them to work together to achieve better outcomes for the sector, and the communities they serve.
The AFAC Communications Team works to build consistency of brand, key messages and member experience through a variety of publications and events. As part of the AFAC Communications Team, you will contribute to a culture and capability that enables AFAC to increase engagement and to communicate value and relevance to its members across the fire and emergency services sector.
About the role - Communications Officer
The Communications Officer will support the Engagement and Member Experience Team in the development and implementation of the AFAC Communications Strategy.
Key duties and responsibilities
Print and Online Publications
- Write and edit content for information and communication products
- Work with Communications Team to draft and edit content for the Australian Journal of Emergency Management and Fire Australia Magazine
- Work with Communications Team to edit and publish AFAC doctrine and the AIDR (Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience) Handbook series
- Set and manage deadlines, liaise with Directors, Managers and Project Officers to provide content as needed
- Maintain house style throughout editing and proofing content
- Contribute to increasing engagement across online channels through reviewing analytics
Social media
- Coordinate content for social media channels: Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, ensuring content is published in a timely manner and according to schedule
- Maintain a content calendar to plan posts and identify opportunities to leverage existing content with Communications Team
- Track engagement analytics across social media platforms
Conference and Events
- Provide communications and marketing support
- Assist with the production of conference delegate handbooks, proceedings and other materials
- Contribute to media activities for events
Marketing
- Assist with maintaining and updating marketing materials as required
- Liaise with graphic designers ensuring high-quality documents that meet brand and style guidelines
Website
- Assist with maintaining and updating website content as necessary
- Produce and publish content for websites
- Assist in tracking website user engagement analytics to inform the communications strategy
About you
You will be highly organised, have excellent written skills, interpersonal, verbal and relationship management skills, with a high attention to detail and capacity to meet deadlines in order to deliver quality outcomes.
You will also possess experience with e-communications channels, social media and web content management systems. And most importantly, you will have a flexible and adaptable mindset allowing you to assist a small, fun and hardworking team with a busy workplan!
