The Deputy Commissioner Operations is a member of the Corporate Executive and actively contributes to the strategic direction and management of the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, while also leading the delivery of exceptional frontline emergency services across the state of Western Australia. In this role, you will provide strategic leadership to implement Fire Access Fire Trails (FAFT) plans by coordinating the inspection, maintenance, and upgrade of fire trails in line with NSW RFS Fire Trail Standards. You will also oversee the delivery of FAFT projects, monitor contractor performance, and use project management systems to track progress and communicate delays, and collaborate with Districts to ensure all trails listed in the FAFT plan are inspected and accurately reported.
Representing the Chief Officer, the position of Deputy Chief Officer (DCO) Service Delivery is a critical role and comes with significant responsibility to provide vision, direction and leadership ensuring operations runs efficiently and effectively, for the delivery of fire and emergency management services for the community. This includes planning, prevention, preparation and responding to emergencies, recruitment and retaining volunteer capability and ensuring the provision of training to maintain and strengthen the capacity of our volunteers and staff.
In this role, you’ll design, pilot and refine evidence‑based community engagement programs, tools and resources that help communities prepare for and respond to fire and other emergencies. You’ll develop, test, evaluate and update behavioural‑change programs and tools, collect and analyse impact data, and prepare clear reports and recommendations to support continuous improvement. A key part of the role is providing strong backend coordination to ensure our programs remain consistent, effective and aligned with best practice. You’ll work closely with teams, volunteers and stakeholders to maintain quality and drive ongoing development. While the role is not primarily front‑facing, you will occasionally deliver member training and workshops as needed.
You will partner with Category Managers, business leads and other stakeholders in a range of categories, including ICT, Corporate Services, Firefighting Equipment, Fleet and Aviation, to plan, develop, source and manage procurement arrangements to effectively meet organisational and business objectives. You will be responsible for leading the RFX process from source to contract, including the commercial negotiations and contracts. You will plan and lead category and contract management plans in the establishment and review of supply arrangements to deliver value for money procurement outcomes in a variety of categories. You will have one direct report.

As District Manager, you’ll be responsible for leading, coordinating, and supporting the District’s volunteer and staff workforce to protect the community from the threat of fire and other emergencies. Reporting to the Hunter Area Commander, you’ll oversee district operations, strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders, and ensure the delivery of high quality services that help our communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies.
In this role you will hold critical responsibility for leading all facets of operational service delivery within the Rural Fire District, often in high pressure and politically sensitive environments. This includes the coordination and support of the Districts highly valued volunteer workforce, ensuring effective, timely, and community focused emergency response.
